New7Wonders Cities

One month to go in New7Wonders Cities countdown: It’s all moving!

Night in the city

With only one month left to the end of the first finalist phase of the global vote to choose the New7Wonders Cities — when the 28 participating cities will become 21 — the latest snapshot from the New7Wonders analytics department shows a lot of movement in the positions of the participants:

  • Landmark cities such as Chicago, Seoul, Athens remain strong but are beginning to show signs of fatigue, suggesting that despite their fame, the energy to compete is not always there.
  • Emerging cities such as Vigan, Shenzhen, and Quito have seen improvements, but are by no means in the “safe” zone yet, especially as previous experience indicates changes up to the last minute.
  • Iconic cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai and Barcelona are slipping down more than they would like to and really need to pick up the fight in these last weeks before the next qualifier.

Commenting on these examples, Eamonn Fitzgerald, Head of Communications for New7Wonders, says: “As with all our previous campaigns, we do not ever disclose the actual ranking position of any participant during the finalist phases; however we can see a lot of movement and still a fairly open playing field. There is no doubt that every vote counts!”

NOTE TO MEDIA

On July 7, at 7:07pm GMT on www.new7wonders.com, New7Wonders will reveal the 21 Finalist cities that have qualified for the next stage. The Official Declaration of the New7Wonders Cities will take place on 7 December 2014.
