ZURICH: 6 August 2013: The Official Inauguration of Komodo as one of the New7Wonders of Nature will be celebrated in Indonesia in September at events in the capital, Jakarta, and at Labuan Bajo, in the Nusa Tenggara region, near Komodo Island, home of the famous dragons.

The Jakarta event will take place on Wednesday, 12 September, while the Labuan Bajo event on Friday, 14 September, will be attended by His Excellency, the President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and Bernard Weber, Founder uof New7Wonders. The highpoint will be the unveiling of a specially-commissioned plaque confirming Komodo as one of the Official New7Wonders of Nature.

“The New7Wonders of Nature campaign is a great example of an initiative that appealed to a global community,” said Bernard Weber. “The election of Komodo to the ‘Canon of 7’ was made possible by global voting, but the enthusiastic participation of the Indonesian public in the campaign deserves to be recognized as testament to the value that the country holds for its natural heritage. The support of President Yudhoyono and that of Jusuf Kalla, former Vice President of Indonesia, and Head of the Komodo Official Supporting Committee, stresses the importance of the positive relationship between New7Wonders and the country’s leaders.”

With the Indonesian event in September, the cycle of New7Wonders of Nature Official Inauguration ceremonies, which began in April last year in the Philippines, will be complete. In alphabetical order, the New7Wonders of Nature are: Amazon, Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Jeju Island, Komodo, Puerto Princesa Underground River and Table Mountain.
